Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) one of EPA Chief Gina McCarthy’s worst nightmares, just as she and her agency are one of the worst nightmares for an American citizen or company. He’s done some homework and had a few questions and observations for the uninformed and unprepared witness.
He notes how the flow rate from the Animas River spill is worse following the intervention of the EPA than it was prior to their getting involved. He asks if there is any new data since the most recent he has is roughly ten days old, receiving one of her typical “I’ll be glad to get back to you on that Congressman” replies.
It appears that Rep Gohmert was expecting that lack of preparedness, and vents a little at her not having brought current information with her. Maybe she was out saving the world from our breath, got alarmed and lost track of time. It’s understandable.
He notes that before the blowout the discharge rate was seventy gallons per minute. Now, after the EPA intervened, it’s in the neighborhood of 600 gallons per minute, an eight or nine fold increase.
Gohmert says he’s blown away by McCarthy’s indications that her agency did not anticipate that this type of blowout could occur. She interjects a response of “Sir, I didn’t say that,” to which Gohmert replied, “Oh, okay, so you just went into it knowing this kind of damage could occur but not preparing for it.”
She proceeds to claim that she and her agency met with the State of Colorado and others in advance, something which Gohmert is skeptical of in view of her track record of dishonesty.
Gohmert asks how many charges of criminal violations have been brought during her tenure at the EPA, another number that she does not have available. She does admit that there have been many, at point which is immediately followed by Gohmert asking her how many are being investigated within their agency for this discharge. She replies that she’s unaware of any criminal investigations, to which Gohmert replies, “Ah, well I guess there’s the rub, isn’t it? Your agency is above the law and all the damage you do to the environment and you want to be in charge of all of the waters of the United States and you couldn’t even figure out to get ready for a possible discharge.”
While McCarthy may claim that her agency was prepared with contingency planning for a possible blowout, the video at this link, from the moments of the spill clearly shows there was no plan of action, no coordination and no emergency planning in place for the disaster. She’s lying again. That’s what she does; she’s a climate change salesperson and a puppet of power grabbing elites. She’s a political hack, not a manager and most definitely not a true environmentalist.
